The Matrix Manager is a special form of People Manager. While Employees can only have one Direct Manager who is generally responsible for them, any number of Matrix Managers can be assigned to Employees.

The Matrix Manager can enter and evaluate Targets for assigned Employees. Unlike the Direct Manager, however, the Matrix Manager only sees the Targets that they themselves have created or the ones where they have been added as the responsible manager.

An example of Matrix Managers are project managers who temporarily take over the leadership role for their project team.

Another possibility are Employees who work for two Teams. One of the managers is the Direct Manager, the other the Matrix Manager.

Matrix Managers can be assigned directly to an Employee. Alternatively, a Team Leader automatically becomes a Matrix Manager of all Team members for whom they are not entered as a Direct Manager.
